Joyce Werwie-Perry asks "Who, Me?"
SEWICKLEY, Pa.-Sweetwater instructor & local artist, Joyce Werwie-Perry asks us to consider what art reveals about you as a person, or what kind of habits, struggles, joys, patterns, quirks or obsessions you have discovered in making art. "Who, Me?" will be shown at Sweetwater Center for the Arts February 5 - 26, 2011. In this self-portrait exhibition artists were asked to enter works that are either a physical representation of themselves or any subject that strongly represents a dominant aspect of their personality. It is a chance for the artists to look inward, and possibly discover something new about themselves and give the viewer some insight into who they are.
Who, Me? is juried by Joyce Werwie Perry, the owner of le Poire, a fine art studio and gallery located near the West End of Pittsburgh. Most recently, Joyce was given the honor of a solo exhibition at The Westmoreland Museum of Art (entitled: REMNANTS) by Barbara Jones, Chief Curator. She has won numerous awards in regional and national exhibitions, including juror's awards given by such people as Douglas Fogle, Curator of Contemporary Art at Carnegie Museum of Art; Virginia Mecklenberg, Curator at The Smithsonian, Washington, D.C; and Faith Ringgold, renowned international artist and Caldicott Award winner among others.
Her work has been shown at Carnegie Museum of Art; Andy Warhol Museum; The Westmoreland Museum of American Art; Butler Museum of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio; Avampato Discovery Museum in Charleston, West Virgini; The National Arts Club in New York City; Wichita Center for the Arts in Kansas; Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Altoona; Duquesne University; Seton Hill University; Community College of Allegheny County; Pittsburgh Center for the Arts; and many other local galleries. Joyce's studio has become a school of painters who study her knife technique and show their work locally. She also gives instruction at Sweetwater Center for the Arts and conducts workshops throughout western Pennsylvania. Joyce is a member and former Vice President/Exhibitions Co-Chair of The Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and has over 145 works in private collections nationally.
