The Beginnings of Body Art: A Short History on Tattoo Culture

 

SEWICKLEY, PA - Join independent curator Ingrid LaFleur as she explores the historical uses of tattooing and its development in the US in her lecture on The Beginnings of Body Art: A Short History on Tattoo Culture! This lecture for ages 16 & up will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2011, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Sweetwater Center for the Arts. Ingrid will discuss the traditional body art of the South Pacific, Latin America, Africa, Japan and ancient Greece and Rome. Her curatorial focus is on contemporary art from Africa and the Diaspora. Ingrid is currently Program Manager for the HOMEWOOD Artist Residency initiated by The Andy Warhol Museum. She is also Co-Founder and Director of the Sewickley Arts Initiative, a curatorial project which exhibits local artists in the vacant storefronts of Sewickley's business district. An active community member, Ingrid serves as Vice President of the Sweetwater Center for the Arts Board of Directors. This lecture is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Walk-ins are welcome! Light hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served.
