Summer Camps
Sweetwater Center for the Arts offers weekly, half-day and full-day summer camps for ages 3-17 in the visual, performing, culinary and literary arts. Every week is a new adventure as children and teens explore various themes and art forms. Summer camps run from June 14-August 13, 2010. On the first day of camp, please go to the upstairs lobby for camp check-in.
All campers must have a Permission Form/Medical Waiver on file before they may participate in camp activities. These forms will be mailed to campers prior to the camp start date.
If you register your child for one morning camp and one afternoon camp in the same week, you may sign up for the supervised lunch ($10/day; lunch is not included) at the time of registration. Camp participants (ages 4-15) who are not accompanied by an adult and wish to stay in the building between camps must sign up for the supervised lunch. Supervision is provided by a Sweetwater instructor or staff member.
Supervised lunch registration must be made at least two business days prior to the camp start date in order for arrangements to be made. Please contact the Education Director for questions regarding the supervised lunches.
Due to food allergies, Sweetwater does not provide snacks or lunch. Snack breaks will be taken during both morning and afternoon camps, so parents should provide a snack, drink or lunch for their children. Snacks and drinks may also be purchased in the Sweetwater office.
Melodia Musical Theater Workshop
CH23
(Children entering grades 2-6 in the fall)
This year’s camp is being held in memory of Mario Melodia, who so graciously dedicated his time and energy to Sweetwater for so many summers.
This intensive summer camp experience will introduce students to creative dramatics, scene study, dance and basic vocal techniques in an age-appropriate way. In the past, children have performed shows by Disney and current children’s movies and musicals. Students will rehearse and perform for family and friends, showcasing the skills they have acquired throughout the week.
Scripts will be emailed to students in the beginning of July. Parent involvement is strongly encouraged, and those parents who are interested in volunteering to help with costumes, props, scenery, etc. should notify Sweetwater at the time of registration.
There will be script read-throughs and music run-throughs on Friday, July 16 and Saturday, July 17. More information will be sent at the time of registration. Please wear comfortable clothing, soft, rubber-soled shoes and bring a tape recorder that you, the student, can operate. Please also bring these items with you to the camp on Monday, July 19.
Camp begins on Monday, July 19. Campers will meet from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. each day through Friday, July 23. Students with solo performances may be required to arrive early or stay late to practice; parents will be notified of any changes or addition to the schedule. Dress rehearsal times will be determined.
Please bring your own snacks and drinks.
The performance will be held at Sweetwater on Saturday, July 24, from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Refreshments will be served after the performance.
