SPRING 2017 PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS


Portrait Photo Workshop PH01 Ages 18+

The secret to taking great portraits is to observe your subjects, connect with them, and use your camera to its best advantage. This intensive workshop will help to guide you through the workings of your DSLR camera, and improving your portraiture skills - upgrading your photos from snapshots to professional quality images. We'll discuss several very simple techniques in composition, camera placement, and natural and artificial light to help your portraits improve significantly. This course will include lecture, hands-on demonstration, and time for students to apply their new skills under the guidance of the instructor. There are no prerequisites for this class, but basic understanding of photography is assumed. This course is designed for students who have access to a DSLR camera.

Photography: Past and Present PH02 Ages 18+
Students will learn how to create 19th-century physical photographs from images on your smartphone! Learn the alternative photographic processes cyanotype and Van Dyke brown - processes popular in the 19th century which are used today for their beautiful tones and painterly quality. Learn to create digital negatives, coat your own photographic paper, expose, develop, and tone to create photographs just like the professionals. Please bring a variety of your own photos on a hard drive or USB. Smartphone photos will work too!

Lightroom Workshop PH03 Ages 18+
Learning Adobe Lightroom software is a must for the ambitious photographer preparing image files for web or print. In this intensive one-day workshop, students will be introduced to the photo processing and image organizing capabilities of Lightroom used by amateur and professional photographers alike. Students will also learn Lightroom's editing capabilities, from working with RAW files and Jpegs to batch editing and organizing, keywording and copyrighting your photos- everything you need to know to establish a great digital workflow for your photographs! Students will need to bring their own laptop to this workshop.

Photoshop Workshop PH04 Ages 18+
Come learn all about the magic of Adobe Photoshop! In this intensive workshop, you will learn how to edit and manipulate your own digital photographs just like the professionals. Students will learn basic to intermediate photoshopping techniques; from correcting exposure and color to creating unique composite imagery. We will also cover best organizational practices used by professional photographers, as well as keywording, labeling and preparing images for web and print. Students will need to bring their own laptop to this workshop.
