Melodia Musical Theater Workshop

SEWICKLEY, Pa.- Mario Melodia often said, "I don't teach dance. I teach self-esteem." Through song, dance and acting Mario was able to reveal a level of talent, confidence and spunk in kids that no one thought was possible. Sweetwater Center for the Arts is now enrolling for Melodia Musical Theater Workshop for children entering grades 2-6 in the fall from July 18-22, 2011, from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. The director and assistants of the Melodia Musical Theater Workshop each worked with or studied under Mario for many years and are honored and determined to pass on his lessons to the next generation of campers!

This intensive summer camp experience will introduce campers to creative dramatics, scene study, dance and basic vocal techniques in an age-appropriate way. They will work together and interact in scenes, musical numbers and dances. There will also be opportunities to work behind the scenes with set design and production. In the past, children have performed shows by Disney and current children's movies and musicals. Students will perform for family and friends, showcasing the skills they have acquired throughout the week.

Scripts will be emailed to campers in the beginning of July. Parent involvement is strongly encouraged, and those parents who are interested in volunteering to help with costumes, props, scenery, etc. should notify Sweetwater at the time of registration.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. Camp begins on Monday, July 18 at Sweetwater. Campers will meet from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. each day through Friday, July 22. Students with solo performances may be required to arrive early or stay late for additional rehearsals. Parents will be notified of any changes to the schedule. The performance will be held at Sweetwater on Saturday, July 23, 2011, from 10:00-11:30 a.m. There will be a post-performance celebration with refreshments following the show.
