DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION AND OUTREACH

Sweetwater Center for the Arts, a non-profit art center located in Sewickley, PA seeks a Director of Education and Outreach to develop and coordinate our arts education program at our center, as well as expanding our outreach initiative which aims to serve schools, organizations, and individuals across the western Pennsylvania region.

Sweetwater proudly provides innovative art, music, and theater classes, workshops, and events throughout the year with an emphasis on current trends in arts education, STEAM concepts, and through multi-cultural perspectives. The ideal candidate understands what it takes to provide impactful arts education in the 21st century and demonstrates a passion for collaborating with communities of various cultural and economic backgrounds. We are looking for a candidate who is uniquely qualified to provide both strong organizational support, and the talent and vision to develop offerings and recruit instructors that will appeal to diverse communities.

This position oversees the production of Sweetwater's quarterly class catalog and coordinates publication with graphic designer and printer.

Qualifications:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to think creatively are essential.
  • Ability to manage projects requiring both big-picture, strategic thinking as well as detail-oriented operational tasks.
  • Knowledge of STEAM concepts and 21st Century Skills strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Pittsburgh arts community preferred.
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license with reliable transportation.

Education:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and training required.  Arts education, arts management or arts-related degree is preferred.

Arts Educator/Outreach
Sweetwater Center for the Arts, a non-profit art center located in Sewickley, PA seeks an experienced teaching artist to assist with our various outreach partnerships in Northern Allegheny and southern Beaver Counties. We are looking for an instructor who is comfortable and experienced in working with youth from ALL backgrounds and who understands how the arts can make a positive impact on a child and therefor the community. A demonstrated understanding of contemporary trends in art education, and previous teaching experience is required. Artists of all disciplines are encouraged to apply - this includes Visual Artists, Dancers, Musicians, STEAM Professionals, Makers, and Social Practitioners. Applicants must have Act 34/114/151 clearances.

PART-TIME RECEPTIONIST
Sweetwater Center for the Arts, a non-profit art center located in Sewickley, is hiring a part-time receptionist. Primary responsibilities include maintaining a presence at the front desk, providing excellent customer service, fielding telephone calls, receiving and directing customers with a positive attitude, assisting instructors, setting up for classes, filing and data entry, cleaning up and closing building.  Qualifications: applicant must be responsible, organized, possess strong interpersonal skills and have basic computer knowledge.  Education: completion of high school; pursuance of college degree an asset.  Applicant must have a current Pennsylvania driver’s license and reliable transportation. This position is ideal for individuals who are currently in college and/or looking for a part-time job to supplement their income.
Schedule may include but is not limited to:
Monday – Thursday evenings
Alternating Friday & Saturday shifts

Duties include:


·        Front desk duties:  answering phones, customer service
·        Set-up/Clean-up of classes for that day and for the following day
·        Opening/Closing building properly/setting alarm
·        Checking main voicemail
·        Sorting mail
·        Taking class registrations
·        Updating database
·        Class cancellation and other education phone calls
·        Assisting with event preparation
·        Clean bulletin boards, bins around building
·        Restock bins around building with Sweetwater literature
