Public Art Installation
If you’ve never seen a giant sea creature devour a building, you’ll have the chance beginning on April 4, 2014 when Sweetwater launches Wild Things—a public art installation featuring 30-foot inflatable tentacles, created by British street artist Filthy Luker.
Wild Things is a summer-long campaign to increase awareness of the many offerings available at Sweetwater—from art classes and exhibitions to outreach programs and community events. Wild Things will also include an exhibition of ‘art with an unrestrained spirit,’ Wild Things Family Day - Adventure to the Wild Side in June and a variety of classes, summer camps and other activities with a Wild Things theme.
Wild Things Juried Art Exhibition
April 4-June 21, 2014
Wild creatures. Wild urges. Wild colors. Wild movement. Wild Things cannot be controlled. Each exists under its own set of rules. They are barbarous, unrestrained entities that upset their surroundings. The art barely contained in the exhibition will capture your imagination and demand voice. The exhibition includes untamable 2D, 3D and kinetic artworks with unusual musicians and performance art at the opening reception.
Wild Things is juried by Cynthia Shaffer, a mixed media artist favoring bugs, bones and sea creatures over traditional art materials. The show will include a sampling of her work which can be seen at: cynthia-shaffer.com.
The reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.
